I have found they are a mixture of good and bad. Some straight and honest, everything in order. Others were not downright blatantly dishonest, but fudged on taxes and didn’t give receipts for work done. One elder did a job in my house and never issued a receipt. It didn’t work but I didn’t chase him as it didn’t cost very much. When I got somebody else (non Witness) to clean up his mess they were laughing at how badly he had done the job, basically inferring that he was a cowboy! Another elder employed a lot of bros and sis and subtly used this to try to influence both the body of elders and the cong to do things his way in the congregation. Some people were afraid to disagree with him in case it affected their job prospects.

JW Businessmen
by NotFormer ini was never a jw, but came across a few in my travels.
one jw businessman i dealt with seemed to be honest, trustworthy and reputable đź‘Ťđź‘Ś.
another i knew was the kind of bloke who, if he told me that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, i'd watch sunrise and sunset just to make sure.

a pet peeve of mine
by enoughisenough inputting this under "friends" because i couldn't figure out where to put it.
it is very often on here and in ex jw videos, ect that people like to undermine some of those who once we would have called friends.
there seems to be a view that window washers, plumbers, cleaners, construction workers are somehow less intelligent than those who may be college educated.

This is a superb thread. I too have always been annoyed at the “window washer” references. I was at one time in that line of work. I did it partly to spend time ministering as an elder in my JW congregation. Way out of my depth on many occasions as I did not have mental health training. But glad to see that many posters are stressing that that form of work (window cleaning) is honorable in itself. Now I am a teacher, in a super stressful job, and sometimes I wish I was back in the much less stressful job of cleaning windows! But on the plus side, I am no longer an elder!

If you look it up on YouTube with the correct convention name for the year it may pop up (a generic one).

Charles the Third and the Two-Headed Beast
by Anony Mous ini was reading an article about the pomp and circumstance around the first coronation in nearly a century.. made me think of the revelation book (the red one, not the bible) and the picture of the two headed beast with a sword and if i have some time today i will see if i can’t find it and age it a bit, it seems the sword is a bit dull and the two heads are now both octogenarians with severe dementia, kind of funny to see that instead of “swift judgment” we’ve come to internal decay.. what do you canadians, english, scots, irish and australians think about your new leadership?.

By Irish I assume you mean Northern Irish? The Republic of Ireland has been around for 100 years, nothing to do with the British monarchy!

New blood card
by ExBethelitenowPIMA inall elders just got letters about this new blood card system .
“language-coordinating congregations will receive separate parcel(s) containing the revised durable power of attorney for health care (dpa-e) for all congregation(s) in their literature group.“.
my questions are - why the revision and what has been revised?.

Guys, can you stop the references to janitors, as if they were some lower life form? There is nothing wrong with being a janitor. I was one in a previous life. I now work in education but I despair at the cheap shots at people who do this type of work. I get the fact that the inference is that people who work as janitors are apparently not in a position to decide on medical matters for others but the constant jibes at this form of work just make you seem somehow prejudiced and narrow minded.

Please be grateful that people post replies to your requests. Saying “Can people not read?” is very rude!

Fisherman, you’ve got a right to your opinion and so do I. I was really an elder and I am relating my own experience. You are brilliant at insulting people on this board. You question my honesty by questioning whether I was ever an elder or JW.. You also infer that people I “slighted” would now get their own back by making comments about me now that I am on the same level. Insults all round. Well done!

Stress of Going to a Summer Convention
by LostintheFog1999 inspotted this picture on a friend's page, he was highlighting the mental health issue.
however,we thought the magazine on stress was deliberately placed in the summer months because for any jw going to a convention, paying high season hotel rates for themselves or their whole family to stay near the convention centre, fighting coworkers and managers to get the time off work, travelling expenses, buying their own meals for the family, buying new shiny suits and dresses to impress (particularly if you have teenage girls who are looking for their prince), and more.... by the time they come home again and straight away back to work, their nerves will be so frazzled that their stress levels will have sky rocketed!.
as brother elder says to them, "don't worry.

Where I live we always got a better deal by ignoring the places that the bros had done a deal with. Some thought this was disloyal to the “arrangement”, but shouldn’t the rooming department have been getting us the best deal? Unless somebody was profiting from it.? Shock, horror! Surely not?

Fisherman, don’t assume that you know everything. I did give family responsibilities as a reason and I was believed. I was still going to meetings etc. I was not pressurized to step down. Let people think what they like. That’s up to them. You have a very negative attitude. Lighten up a bit! How do you know what people think of me? You know nothing about me, my life, the congregations I have been in, and yet you assume you know how people in my life and area feel about me. Don’t make generalizations. I work in education and I always tell my students not to make sweeping statements as they are often incorrect.

Fisherman.
You said. “Obviously, no one stops serving unless they no longer qualify. Everybody knows this unless they are “new in the truth”.
That does not apply in every instance. I served as an elder for many years and took a breather and stopped serving for a few years about twenty years ago. I had my own reasons for this, nothing to do with no longer being qualified. I served as an elder again later until finally I found out about all the money-grabbing the GB were putting in place (I was doing congregation accounts at the time), and all the other dodgy stuff like the generation teaching and other doctrinal gymnastics. I resigned again despite the desperate attempts by the coordinator of the body of elders to get me to change my mind and stay on. They made the normal announcement and maybe some were wondering why and suspected I had been up to no good. If anyone asked I quoted family responsibilities, which was actually part of the reason for my departure. Most accepted this and didn’t treat me as if I had done anything wrong. Even now I get asked to do stuff on the meeting and so on, in the hopes of getting me to serve again. So you can stop serving without everyone thinking you no longer qualify.
